Heat Advisory in Effect

A heat advisory goes into effect from noon until 8 p.m. Friday, including Monroe, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Oswego, Livingston, and Ontario Counties.

The advisory includes the cities of Rochester, Newark, Fair Haven, Oswego, Geneseo and Canandaigua. Breezy, hot and humid weather, with a chance of an afternoon thunderstorm and a high of 93.

The heat index will reach, and possibly exceed 100 degrees.

Friday night thunderstorms become more numerous as a strong cold front crosses New York Friday night into Saturday morning. It may bring strong to severe thunderstorms with the possibility of damaging winds and very heavy rain. The rains could cause localized flooding.

During the heat, wear light weight and loose clothing and drink plenty of water. If you’re working outdoors, OSHA recommends frequent rest breaks. Heat stroke is an emergency. If you need to, call 911.
