Vampire Weekend is back on top. The indie rockers' third album, Modern Vampires of the City, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 this week after selling 134,000 copies in its first frame.
The feat marks a new sales record for the band and the second chart-topper of their career. Vampire Weekend's last album, 2010's Contra, also bowed at number one, but only sold 124,000.
Meanwhile, Modern Vampires of the City is only the 19th independently-released album to debut on top of the Billboard 200 since Nielsen SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991. Country star Jason Aldean's Night Train was the last non-major to start at number one back in November of last year.
