U of R freshmen mark Wilson Day

Rochester, NY -- It's a big day on two of the area's biggest college campuses:

The University of Rochester is celebrating its 25th annual Wilson Day. Freshmen are volunteering at dozens of Rochester nonprofit agencies as part of their orientation program. Many are sprucing up Mount Hope Cemetery and neighborhood streets.

The day honors U of R grad and Xerox founder Joseph C. Wilson, who died in 1971.

Meanwhile, RIT is hosting a reception and ceremony to mark the switch to a semester calendar. A time capsule preserving staff and student comments on the switch will be installed near the Ritter Ice Arena
