Rochester, NY -- U.S. Senator Charles Schumer is making the case for filling in part of Rochester's Inner Loop.
Schumer asked U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx in a meeting Friday to select the city's application for $17.7 million discretionary grant.
Schumer says the Inner Loop is an underutilized and deteriorated highway that isolates Rochester's downtown from nearby neighborhoods -- creating an impediment to economic activity and business development in the area.
He says the project would replace the southeast section of the loop and replace it with a boulevard and room for real estate development.
