Families displaced by early Sunday fire

A fire early this morning on the West Side has left two families looking for a new place to live.

The fire broke out about 4:45 this morning on Austin Street off Lyell Avenue.

A tenant on an upper floor of the double smelled smoke and called 911. Firefighters found flames coming from a first floor bedroom. The fire was contained there, but authorities said there was smoke and water damage to the rest of the house. Six people were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Nobody was hurt, and the cause is under investigation.
