The Republican candidate for governor has selected the sheriff of Chemung County to be his running mate.
Rob Astorino says Sheriff Christopher Moss is his pick to run for lieutenant governor. Moss is president of the State Sheriff's Association and Astorino calls him one of the "best and brightest" the state has to offer.
Astorino says he wanted an Albany outsider, and found one who's a reformer for a state in desparate need of reform.
Moss is also a critic of Governor Cuomo's New York SAFE gun control law. He's been sheriff of Chemung County since 2006.
Republicans are gathering this week in Westchester County to nominate their statewide candidates for the fall elections.
