Albany, NY -- State Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle is hailing the Assembly's vote today to pass the Women’s Equality Act. He says the bill will advance and protect the fundamental rights of women by addressing domestic violence, human trafficking, workplace discrimination and a woman’s freedom of choice. A similar bill stalled in the Senate last year over abortion language.
Assembly Republican Leader Brian Kolb wants the provisions in the Act voted on separately. He says meaningful reforms failed last year NOT because of the merits of the bills, but because of the legislative process that was used.
