Rochester, NY -- The union representing supervisors and administrators in the Rochester City School District has given Superintendent Bolgen Vargas (pictured) a vote of no confidence.
Union President Deborah Rider says the vote is a first since the union was formed in 1980. She says Vargas hasn't shown the leadership the district needs.
In a statement, Vargas says "Improving student achievement will require a serious change in the way we manage our organization. I understand that these changes cause discomfort for many administrators." He says it is "regrettable" the union leaders are "focused on creating friction among adults instead of solutions to serve children."
